General Pediatrics Locum – Red Deer, AB
Good morning! I would like to invite you to consider an opportunity to locum in general community pediatrics in Red Deer, AB, starting as early as this July, to cover a maternity leave. We are looking for someone to work full time in the clinic as well as on call, but the total duration of coverage is flexible, from 3-10 months with the chance to continue permanently afterwards.
Red Deer is situated between Calgary and Edmonton, about 90 minutes from each of these cities. Our population is about 90,500 but we service all of Central Alberta, whose catchment area includes about 450,000 people in total. Red Deer’s hospital has a 12-bed pediatric ward as well as a 16-bed level 2B NICU, which takes babies delivered at 32 weeks and older. Our units are well supported with NICU rescusitation nurses, RTs, anesthesia, and other subspecialists. In- and out-patients have good access to dieticians, OTs, PTs, SLPs and other developmental supports.
Our practice is a consulting practice / referral base only. Call shifts are 12 hours long, can be done from home, and one can expect to work between 6-8 of these per month, generally spread out among days, nights and weekends. With this in mind, this leaves 2-4 days of clinic per week, which is flexible.
Having graduated from Edmonton’s peds program in 2013, I have been working here for 2 years and I’m having a hard time accepting that I’ll be off for a while! I’ve been blessed with excellent, supportive & approachable colleagues, and an office that is extremely well run. Overhead costs are quite competitive and include both typing and billing services. This is a fantastic opportunity for new grads!

Part-time General Pediatrician – Family Practice Office
Part-time pediatrician needed. Group of family physicians who do scheduled, full scope family practice, as well as an urgent care, no appointment necessary practice, are in need of a pediatrician to attend once per week for pediatric consultations. This model has worked very well for the pediatrician and the clinic in the past. Our clinic would do all of the scheduling, and would provide office space and support staff. The pediatrician would just be responsible for their own billings and dictation services. This would be a great opportunity for a new graduate pediatrician who is looking to build their practice, or for a semi-retired experienced pediatrician who would only like to work part-time. Patient demographics are very favorable with a wide mix of patients from different ethnic backgrounds. For further information, please contact Devon Krahenbil (Office Manager) at 604-771-1081 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

The position would consist of continuing a research project involving respiratory illnesses and becoming part of a team of 6-7 Pediatricians covering the inpatient wards. This would also include teaching 3d year Malawian Medical students. Housing would be included.
The ideal candidate would have GH experience doing clinical work in a resource limited setting. Acute care skills would be ideal as well as some clinical research experience. A recent graduate with the right skill set could fit this opportunity.

General Pediatrician Locum – Victoria – Summer 2015
General Pediatrician Locum – Dr. Lipson – Summer to Dec 2015
(Update Feb 23, 2015)
General Pediatrician Locum – Calgary
I’m looking for a Locum to cover my upcoming maternity leave. I’m due June 21st but hope to be off from June 12th onward. I hope to be off until November 23rd and return only 1 day a week at first (this is negotiable).
I’m looking for coverage for Mondays, Tuesday afternoons and Fridays.
I work in downtown Calgary on 9th Ave and 4th street in Gulf Canada Square, which is right by the Calgary Tower. Our clinic is called Associate Pediatrics and is part of a larger physician group that has been in operation in Calgary since the 1920s. There are 40 physicians in all that work on our floor of the building. There is also a laboratory, pharmacy and diagnostic imaging center right on our floor. It makes sending patients for tests very simple.
Our pediatric office is group of 5 female physicians and everyone is very open to answering questions and lending a helping hand. That’s a big part of why I joined this practice. We also have lovely office staff, as well as a large “central” administration office. Our office manager is exceptionally experienced and very approachable.
I love the downtown location as it’s easy to get to on transit (both C-Train and bus), and our building is attached to Bankers Hall/TD square so I can run errands on my lunch break or after work (kind of deadly if you have a shopping habit).
I have a consultant-based practice and only see patients with referrals. So, billing is optimized. My practice is still quite young (I’ve been in practice for just over a year) so honestly I see pretty simple cases. I see ex premature babies, ADHD, sleeping issues, picky eating, the odd type-A worried mom and some primary care (in cases where I really like the families).
We use a EMR called “Jonoke” that is very user friendly and easy to learn. I’m a bit detail oriented so my notes are very complete as are the past problem lists etc. I have heaps of visit templates so it makes charting a breeze. I’ve also accumulated my entire collection of patient handouts on Evernote – which of course I’ll pass your way- so all those resources are a click away. All of the notes are also on hard copy in the office if you prefer.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

2015 GLOBAL HEALTH SERVICE PARTNERSHIP APPLICATIONS – Updated July 12, 2014
***Applications to be a 2015 Global Health Service Partnership Volunteer Close on December 5, 2014.***
The Seed Global Health, the U.S. Peace Corps, and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), have launched the Global Health Service Partnership (GHSP) to strengthen health care workforce capacity in resource-limited countries so that better health care is available worldwide. The Partnership collaborates with local teaching institutions educating future nurses and physicians and collaborating with fellow faculty.
Clinical faculty is severely lacking in many medical and nursing schools in sub-Saharan Africa. It is crucial to help fill this critical gap and GHSP is actively recruiting physicians and nurses to serve as faculty at schools in Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. Seed Global Health has seen great need for pediatrician educators and we are focused on increasing pediatrician recruitment for July 2015 deployment.
To find out more about the GHSP educator positions, click here.
GHSP participants make one year commitment as Peace Corps Response volunteers and as such receive monthly living stipends, transportation to and from their country of service, comprehensive medical care, vacation days, and readjustment allowance. In addition, through loan and debt repayment of up to $30,000, Seed Global Health reduces the barriers for the highest-qualified candidates to volunteer in the GHSP program.
***Applications to deploy in July 2015 are due December 5, 2014.***
