Hi all,

A few upcoming events for the BC Pediatrics’ Society:
1. Resident and Pediatrician Dinner and Annual General Meeting: November 13, 2015 @ 1830. Location is the Seasons Restaurant in Queen Elizabeth Park. There will be delicious food and an opportunity to network with pediatricians in BC. Additionally, after the dinner, all residents are invited to stay for the annual general meeting of the BCPS. Please RSVP to me so we have an idea on numbers.
2. BC Pediatrics’ Society Conference: November 13 and 14 at BC Children’s Hospital. You can register here.
Register before the early bird deadline on September 19 to attend both days for only $75!

American Academy of Pediatrics 

Our Advocacy Program this year is PAVE.  Shana Godfred, co-chair of the advocacy committee put together some highlights about what is currently going on.

a.     Videos of residents discussing gun violence were officially released last month. Also AAP came out with gun violence video that is very moving – all have been linked to our facebook page.

b.     Change your facebook profile picture to the PAVE logo on Tuesday in honor of the 7th of the month!

c.     Clinic posters are being produced for residents to post in their continuity clinics highlighting gun violence and its importance.

d.     Parent anticipatory guidance handouts are in final stages of editing, will be released soon!

e.     Newtown anniversary virtual candlelight vigil was successful and had 235 viewings from our facebook page on Dec 14th.

f.      January, be on the lookout for our monthly email.

g.     Ashley is working with Dr. Rashmi Shetgiri at UTSW, will be making training videos demonstrating how to discuss gun safety in each well child check.

h.     Shana is working on a new Art for Advocacy concept to have local schools to hold an art/poetry competition that depicts gun safety and the dangers of guns to mimic the national art contest announced at the NCE each year.
